Stockman asks Biden to cancel speech to group that cheered American deaths in Iraq
> Markos Moulitsas bragged about his remarks the next day, boasting ‘I struck back’ against dead Americans
> Stockman: ‘Democrats should be ashamed. It’s like the White House wakes up every morning thinking of new ways to express hatred of the military’
WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Stockman Thursday called on Vice President Joe Biden to cancel his upcoming speech at Netroots Nation, a liberal conference founded and sponsored by a liberal website that cheered the deaths of Americans in Iraq.
“Why is the White House honoring a group that cheered when innocent Americans were killed and displayed as trophies by terrorists?,” said Stockman. “Biden’s appearance is an insult to Iraq veterans. Honoring extremists who cheered an al Qaeda attack is not the message Obama should send to Iraq right now. Democrats should be ashamed. It’s like the White House wakes up every morning thinking of new ways to express hatred of the military.”
On March 31, 2004, four American civilians making a food delivery were attacked and killed by al Qaeda terrorists in Fallujah, Iraq. Their corpses were burned, dragged through the streets and then hanged from a bridge as trophies.
Markos Moulitsas, founder and publisher of the blog “DailyKos,” openly cheered the news the terrorist attacks killed Americans.
“I feel nothing over the death of merceneries [sic]. They aren't in Iraq because of orders, or because they are there trying to help the people make Iraq a better place. They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them,” Moulitsas wrote the next day of the four dead Americans.
The Americans never shot back. Al Qaeda echoed Moulitsas’ remarks, displaying a sign that read “Fallujah is the cemetery for Americans.”
Moulitsas refused to apologize. The day after his remarks, he went even further, writing “I was angry that these mercenaries would leave their wives and children behind to enter a war zone on their own violition [sic]. So I struck back.”
Netroots Nation was started by DailyKos in 2006 as the “Yearly Kos Convention.” The name was changed to Netroots Nation the next year. This year’s convention will take place in Detroit July 17-20. Biden will speak during a special Thursday afternoon general session.
DailyKos remains a “Premier Sponsor” of the event, along with Google, Facebook and the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee and Democratic Governors Association, both official Democrat Party organizations.
